Albany Kegs And Eggs Riot Leads To A Hunger Strike, And Possibly A Mid-Life Crisis

Fountain Wars Episode I: The Phantom Protestor

I support the First Amendment as much as any other U.S. citizen. Not only does it grant every American the right to speak what they believe, but also the chance to laugh at nut-job demonstrators. Chris Schewe, you have the floor.

Chris Schewe, a 41 year-old Gulf-War veteran and student at UAlbany chained himself to the UAlbany fountain to protest the cancellation of Fountain Day on March 25, 2011. The annual Spring event was canceled in light of the Kegs and Eggs riot that occurred in Albany on March 12. Schewe was armed with water, a pup tent, donned adult diapers and would not move until the following Monday when his friend would return with the key to the lock. He even brought sharpies for the convenience of those seeking autographs! Sadly, his mission to last the whole weekend failed after six hours when he got up and left, abandoning his post.

Wait a second. Was this man seriously trying to make a point, or merely acting out for publicity?

Well, Schewe is a respectable figure. His videos on Youtube show him eating objects typically deemed as "inedible," such as tampons and a whole bottle of glue...yeah I can imagine a hunger strike would make you crave those things. A video of him eating tampons can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-y6f0g5odk.

Schewe can also be seen as a representative of the student body which can have good, clean fun and enjoy Fountain Day responsibly. "Fountain Day: The Clean and Sober Way," was Schewe's proposed rendition of Fountain Day 2011 to showcase the more respectable population of UAlbany. To promote this, Schewe stated that he smoked ten marijuana bong hits before showing up to protest...so does today's college terminology not include marijuana abstinence from the term "clean and sober?"

"I've got the mentality of an 18-year-old and I'm never going to change, I threw eggs at cars last Halloween with my son." ....Yes Chris, that you do.

The debate revolving around Schewe's antics does not regard the schedule of events for UAlbany, but more or less the well being of our veterans when they return home from duty. Men and women who serve our country do not deserve the fate of becoming like this man and should maintain much more self-respect. So move over Charlie Sheen, there's a new party animal in town who knows how to raise hell and cause destruction while maintaining his concept of "clean and sober."

And THAT is one possible reason for New York cutting funds to SUNY schools.

I'm sure his wife and kids are proud of him. NOT!!

He should be at an institution (psychiatric), but not an academic one.

He gives students, veterans, and Americans a bad name.

This self-serving lunatic should be in jail or better still, a rubber room.
